Healthy foods are those foods that are beneficial to our health. Any healthy food should provide energy to the body to help it function properly. Healthy foods should contain vitamins, minerals and fiber. There could be other foods to consider in your diet but here are top three that are nutritious and healthy;

Fruits and vegetables:

Are low in fat but are known to provide nutrients and vitamins that give us good health, boost the immune system, provide energy and could also be consumed just like any other food because they are nutritious.  A fruit like avocado other than being considered a good source of fats it’s also rich in fiber and potassium, and suitable for prevention of cardiovascular diseases. Others include the berries & cherries, kiwi, grapes peaches among others. Vegetables are known to have a good source of nutrients that are essential for our bodies. The best include spinach, broccoli, carrots, cucumber, garlic among others. 

Carbohydrates and Proteins:

Carbs are either simple or complex. They are known to provide energy to the body. Simple carbohydrates are broken down and easily absorbed by the body. They provide a quick source of energy. These are found in food products of milk or dairy products, honey, juices and vegetables.

Complex carbohydrates are made up of three or more sugars but are rich in fiber. They have to be first broken down into simple carbohydrates before they can be consumed. They provide energy less, compared to the simple ones but faster compared to proteins or even fats. They are found in wheat products such as bread, plants produce like beans, peas and rice, root vegetables like potatoes.

Most carbohydrates are known to be rich in fiber especially in food plants like whole grains, fruits nuts among others. Foods that are rich in fiber helps prevent constipation. It also helps to maintain cholesterol and blood sugar levels.

Proteins are essential foods meant for bodybuilding, fighting of diseases and providing energy. These foods include seafood, beans, peas, eggs, poultry and lean meat.

Fats:

They provide energy to the body, helps in growth, absorbs nutrients and vitamins and also regulates body temperature. Fats are also essential and should be included in the diet. Excellent source of fats is found in Omega-3 found in fish such as Salmon which is rich in vitamin D. Other foods rich in fats include butter and ghee, coconut oil, extra virgin olive oil, dark chocolate, avocados among others.

To live and keep healthy we must check on our diets. We need to consume only foods that are beneficial to our bodies then avoid consuming refined sugars, fast foods and processed foods.
